Just a short one,

At last google has indexed this site, even though I am in the final stages of uploading content to the site I am submitting it to search engines to try and get it noticed for when I am finished it.

As of this morning google rank this site as the 2,092,282 most popular site, woohoo!

Id better come down before I get dizzy.

The calm after the storm

Yesterday was a nightmare, I was pulling my hair out due to the inability of PHP and MySQL to communicate. After a sound nights sleep it took me nearly 30 minutes to achieve what I spent all day doing yesterday.

It seems that wamp stores a php.ini in its /apache2/ folder, even though I was editing the one that resides in /windows/system/ , obviously with no effect at all. Mai bpen rai (never mind) as the thai's would say. I will mayby do a on it one of these days.

The state of the software industry

Software Engineering in the UK strives on as a growing and vital IT occupational group, although there is still a shortage of graduates offering key skills in many areas. Database software, information modelling tools and application development are amongst those areas in need of an injection of qualified personnel. One of the main factors affecting this shortage is the fact that self-employment amongst software engineers is higher than the average for other disciplines within the IT sector, obviously developing software packages of their own.

One of those days!

So much for the 'daily blog', lol, anyone that knows me possibly suspected that there would be less of a daily activity here.

Lately it has been so hectic trying to get things finished off and ready for public consumption, nearly there though. All that is left on Solve is a couple of niggly design issues, bit too much whitespace in some areas.

Escape from nothing

I'm sure I know this guy?

For anyone that knows me from 'way back', they might be confused as to my current status as a web designer / developer and general code monkey (and a bit of a hardware geek). After stints at university in Edinburgh and Newcastle years ago (when I was a lad), I then went on to spend the next ten years climbing the ladder in the concrete cutting and sawing industry. A hard job (at times), decent(ish) money, but not something I wanted to be doing when I am 50. Well, 5 years ago I had a dream that one day I would have a job that I enjoyed and actually looked forward to, so there and then I decided to change my life, re-train myself for a new, more stimulating and rewarding (financially and intellectually) career.

The Thai way or the high way

This section of the blog I am going to dedicate to the rigmarole of living in Thailand as a foreigner. When we used to come to Thailand on holiday, the visa was no problem at all, fill in the little card on the plane and hand it in at the airport - easy. Now, after living here a little over a year, like so many foreigners living here full time, I am now a bit of a legal wiz with tit-bits of Thai laws regarding entry visa's, work permits, company setups and just generally integrating with Thai society.

It has taken me a while, but it's finished now (hold the applause). The content of this site has been in the making for a number of years, even though I only started it 3 months ago. Hopefully it will be appealing, useful or informative to someone.

Why build this site?
